Conservatives believe that urgent action is needed to tackle climate change, reduce our emissions and move Britain to a low carbon economy. Our natural environment is under serious stress and it is vital that we restore degraded ecosystems, reduce pollution, use resources sustainably and improve biodiversity.
Conservative plans are for an environmental and energy revolution, which would make Britain a world leader in moves towards creating a low carbon economy. Our plans will help create hundreds of thousands of jobs, raise skills and improve Britain's competitiveness.
Earlier this year, E.ON, a large energy generating company, was awarded the exclusive right to develop a large-scale offshore wind farm just off the coast of Brighton, which is currently called ‘Zone 6'.
Concerned about the impact that the development will have on Brighton, I met with the project manager to gain a better understanding of the impact on our community and the environment and the benefits of the project to the local economy.
The meeting with E.ON was very interesting. Although we will be able to see the turbines from the shore, they won't be an eyesore. Indeed, they will play an important part in extending the use of renewables in large scale electricity generation and should be welcomed.
I hope to maintain a close relationship with E.ON to ensure that our concerns about the development are heard and that we are consulted on all aspects of the development of the wind farm. Rumour has it that they will even let us rename the site!
Footnote: Interestingly, Nick Herbert MP, Shadow Environment Secretary, posted this on his site this week.
.@itscares What is #FairVotes? is that the official Yes campaign for the AV referendum?

Hi Charlotte, Fully agree. Britain needs to do more to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions. I like you making a point by using a small, environmentally friendly car (http://www.flickr.com/photos/64767782@N00/4292947494/) as your campaign car. Would you agree that polluting cars, such as big 4*4s should be heavily taxed to make them unattractive? If elected, would you support such legislation? All the best Rob

Dear Rob, Thank you for your comment. My little campaign car serves me very well indeed - room for loads of leaflets in it! With regards more polluting cars paying more, that is already the case - road tax is higher for certain vehicles, based on emissions, than for others. With very best wishes, Charlotte
